It's easy to overlook data storage management. You have a hard disk in the computer, right? What could go wrong? It's not a matter of if a disk will fail, it's a matter of when. Not only do you need an organized method for guarding your data against hardware failures, you need a tried and tested method for recovery. Having backups are little good if you can't use them or didn't back up everything needed to do a complete restoration. The name of the game is fault tolerance. If it's important that you not lose business due to failed hardware, then you need to have your systems designed so that a single failure doesn't take you down. For servers, this means disk arrays that can tolerate a single disk failure without losing data or crashing the machine. Many businesses also neglect disaster recovery plans. You can have the best fault tolerant data storage hardware, but it won't be much use if it's destroyed in a fire or stolen from your offices. I can provide automated offsite backup systems that "back up your backups" off-hours over the network to my secure servers. |
